General Questions

Q

I am trying to run a WTxxxx course, but I can't get past the login screen.

A

Shockwave-based courses require XTRA files in order to run correctly. Try using the XTRA Checker to verify you have the correct files.

Q

I am trying to run a course and I am still receiving repeated script errors.

A

Please visit our resolving script error page.

Q

I get a Runtime error and abnormal program termination in the setup.exe file when trying to install one of the WTxxxx courses from CD.

A

The setup program runs best when your Windows Locale is set to English (United States) and Language Settings set to Western Europe and United States. If the set up program gives you errors, please go to Control Panel and select the Regional Options icon. In the General tab, change Your locale to "English (United States)" and Language Settings to "Western Europe and United States".

Q

I am trying to run a WTxxxx course and at the login screen after entering my user information I get a Script error.

A

This could be caused by two things:

1) If the course.x32 and/or keycapture.x32 extra did not download to your computer when you tried to run the course, you will get a script error upon trying to login for the first time.

Please note if you have both Shockwave and Shockwave 8 the files may need to be added to both folders in your Windows\System\Macromed folder.

Solution: Please place the Course.x32 and Keycapture.x32 files in this location:

Windows NT or 2000
C:\WINNT\System32\Macromed\shockwave\xtras

Windows 9x
C:\WINDOWS\System\Macromed\shockwave\xtras

2) If you have successfully run the course before, the User.dat Bookmarking file may be corrupt.

Solution: In this case, delete the user.dat file from either:

Windows NT or 2000
C:\WINNT\system32\CourseTechnology

Windows 9x
C:\WINDOWS\system\CourseTechnology

A

Uninstall Shockwave 8.5.1 and go back to Shockwave 8.5. Both the uninstaller and installer are available at the Macromedia Web site.

Q

How do I clear the cache files in my browser?

A

Clearing Cache in Internet Explorer
Go to the tools menu, Internet Options, click on the button to delete temp files, check the box to delete all offline content too. When that is done, click on the Settings button and increase the size to at least 100MB.

Clearing Cache in Netscape Navigator
Go to the Edit menu, and select Preferences. Click on the plus symbol beside the word "Advanced" to expand the directory, then click on the word Cache. To the right of the window, you'll see the buttons to flush the disk and memory cache; click on both of them.

Q

I am sure I completed a performance-based question correctly, but why was it scored incorrectly on the assessment?

A

To receive a correct score on a performance-based assessment question, you must use the method indicated in the question text ("Use the menu to...", "Use the toolbar to..."). There are multiple ways to complete many tasks within an application and in order to use the least bandwidth and memory possible, the e-learning can only accept one correct method. The acceptable method matches the method taught in the course, and is always called out in the text of the question.

Q

What are the system requirements for NETg courses?

A

  • Win 95/98/NT4 with TCP/IP Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 or higher; Netscape Navigator 4.06 or higher
  • Cookies, Java, and JavaScript enabled (must support Java version 1.02)
  • Pentium PC with 16MB RAM (32MB recommended)
  • 800x600 resolution at 8-bit color depth
  • Without Audio: 28.8K or better connection to the web
  • With Audio: ISDN or better connection to the web

Q

I'm having trouble starting NETg on-line courses. What can I do?

A

Check the system requirements for the course you are trying to start. Be sure your system and configuration meet the requirements. At a minimum, you must use Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.01 SP2 or higher or Netscape Navigator version 4.06 or higher for you Internet browser.

If you are using Internet Explorer 5.0, update the Virtual Machine for your browser. It normally takes longer for courses to load in Netscape Navigator compared to Internet Explorer. If you are using Netscape Navigator, it can take several minutes for your courses to start.

If you are connected to the Internet via a modem rather than a T1 line, DSL, or other high-speed connection, the loading time for courses will increase. Clear your Internet browsers cache (temporary files). If you are using AOL or Compuserve as your Internet Service Provider, make sure you are using a full installation of Internet Explorer and not the version your ISP provides for you.
